Your Own Style

I have a birthday coming up in May and it's made me start thinking about style. I've been asked a lot to define my style and often times found myself a little stumped. But I dove into the huge word "style" and have made a quick how-to guide in finding your own personal style.  Also I'm sharing some fabulous pieces from Tobi (http://www.tobi.com) that are so "my style". Let's get started.

1. Purge! This is one I find so hard! But if you haven't worn a piece in a year GET RID OF IT! There were a lot of things I felt like I was holding on to for no reason. Plus it makes room for new things right?

2. Try everything on- Seriously. Everything. Make a day of it, open some champagne that always helps. You'll know exactly what gets the cut when you try it on and say what was I thinking?!

3. Find your inspiration /muse- I have a couple. Victoria Beckham, Olivia Palermo, SJP. I've admired their style for years. It's always good to have someone to get inspiration from.

4. Versatility. It's great to have those couple favorites that are just wow but for the most part when investing in good pieces make sure you can wear it different ways and with lots of different things. This mesh bodysuit is amazing because the possibilities are endless. So many ways to waer this one.

 5. Choose three words you gravitate towards. For me glam, edgy, feminine. This "little green dress" embodies all of these. Especially when paired with some very fun accessories.

6. Take photos of outfits your love, for us fashion bloggers thats easy but if you aren't this is an important step. I feel like sometimes I will put an outfit together and take a photo and then I'm like "well I guess it's time to start over".

7. Make a list of this things in your closet that you love or are drawn to. I love black, plunging necklines, and body suits! This fabulous Tobi piece is all three.

8. My final tip. If you like it wear it! If it screams your name own it. Don't ever anyone tell you what you like isn't "in". For me, feathers!

I hope you have a very stylish week ahead of you! Monday's can suck so head for that second cup of coffee!

xoxo

Brunch, Baby, Brunch

My Slow Down Sunday is BACK! Sunday's are for relaxing and mimosas and brunch! Thats my motto and since wedding season is quickly approaching I am really taking in two day weekends while I can. Brunch food is hands down the best food ever so I'm sharing with you this epic and easy crowd pleasing recipe.

Brunch Monkey Bread

1 can refrigerated biscuits

3 tbsp butter

6 large eggs

1/2 pound sausage

1 cup cheese of your choice

White Sauce:

1/4 cup low fat mayo

1/2 light sour cream

1 tsp lemon juice

1/2 tsp mustard

Yellow Sauce:

1/2 cup heavy whipping cream

1/2 cup milk

add cheese until it is smooth and mixed (I used cheddar)

dash garlic salt

What you do:

Preheat your oven to 350

- Cook meat and eggs

- Cut your biscuits into fourths and add to a large freezer bag with melted butter

- Add the cooked eggs and meat and shake around to combine everything

- Pour mixture into 6 cup greased bundt pan

- Bake for 30 minutes, while it bakes make your sauces.

- Give it 5 minutes to cool and add your sauce.

Believe me when I say this is delicious, lopsided yes, but delicious nonetheless. I hope you have a relaxing and fabulous Sunday full of all the things you love..including brunch.

Cheers!

Kentucky Hug

This is known as the feeling you get in your chest when you take a shot of whiskey! It sounded even better in our tour guide Justin's southern accent.  Last weekend Mk and I did tours of Bourbon Distilleries in Kentucky and it was such a unique experience.

Our first stop was at the Bulleit distillery. I must say my favorite tid bit from this tour was about the whiskey barrels. When Bulleit is done with them, they go to Scotland to house Johnny Walker scotch, and then to Mexico to hold tequila. If they make it past there they head down to the Caribbean to house rum! So amazing the life these barrels have!

Next we were off to Buffalo Trace. I was excited to go here because this is MK's fav whiskey to have in the house. The plant was HUGE! It was very cool to get to see how everything was made.

Later that night we went to The Even Williams Speak Easy.  So fun. We were transported to prohibition where our bartender Rosko told us all about how they still drank "back in the day". They had this secrete door to get in that looks like a safe, so cool!

We started off Saturday by heading to Makers Mark where I was able to dip my own bottle in the iconic red wax. I loved the Makers 64 so that's what I chose to dip. The property of Makers Mark was absolutely stunning and was actually purchased for 35,000 dollars, on a 200 acre plot! The first bottle of Makers Mark was sold for $7 while most others were sold for $3.

We also go to tour Makers new Rickhouse which was built into a side of a massive hill. This is where they store the Makers 64. The back wall is actually the stone inside the hill. Since its built inside the hill it will stay a constant 50 degrees all year round.

At Four Roses we got to tour the bottling plant. It's such a cool experience to see just how the bourbon is bottled and what that exact process is. We got to drive through the whole property!

Jim Beam shows us the entire process from start to finish. MK got to actually bottle his own and put his thumb print in the black wax of Knob Creek.

It wouldn't be Friday without a drink recipe! Since the Mint Julep screams spring and is basically the state drink of Kentucky, I thought it would be perfect to make with my new favorite bourbon. I got a cocktail book called "Shake" from our Bulleit tour and I'm totally obsessed with it!

The W & P Mint Julep

(makes 2 drinks)

4 shots bourbon

Handful of fresh mint

4 sugar cubes

1/2 shot fresh lemon juice

Add mint leaves, sugar, and lemon juice to shaker. Muddle the ingredients until sugar has dissolved, add bourbon and ice and shake for 10 seconds. Then strain mixture into tumblers containing crushed ice and garnish with remaining mint leaves.

Cheers!

Have a great first weekend of spring all!
