Renovation

Fresh and Sunny

Happy Friday!

I finally wanted to share our latest home improvement with you guys.

When we first bought our house two and a half years ago, we were excited to have a sunroom but didn't really know what to do with it. We didn't love all the wood paneling (not huge fans of too much wood everywhere). We had a big list of things that needed done so this project went on the back burner until we finished my dressing room, sitting and dining room, bar, Theo's room, and many other odds and ends.

The before:

The after:

When it was time to finally do the sunroom I knew I wanted green. Duh. It's only been my favorite color forever. But what about the wood? There was no way we could look at it any longer. After speaking with some people who knew what they are talking about, we decided to cover it in drywall and paint. I wanted to keep it very fresh feeling. The green we chose was a bright earthy one. So even in the winter it will still have a great bright cozy feel.

The wood on the ceiling had to say so we decided to go with a dark stain since the room has so much light. The floor we chose pulls in the dark stain making all the colors come together. Not only do MK and I share a love of a good home reno, we also deeply love lights. Especially chandeliers. Once we chose the light, we came up with the idea to add greenery to it. This was my favorite part of doing this room.

Next to furnish it. MK found the day bed and I coudn't get the words out of my mouth fast enough "GET IT! GET IT RIGHT NOW!". I could just picture all five of us cozied up out here watching a movie. I really liked the addition of grey to the color pallette we had going on. It breaks it up a little. This day bed was well worth it. It's so perfect for writing, napping, or just relaxing for a minute...you know while the baby sleeps. We also wanted a table to sit at but wanted nothing bulky. We found the perfect skinny table to eat at, have fresh herbs, or if need be a champagne bar like I did for Theo's Baptizim.

Since we made this room basically from scratch I felt like when it came time for pillows they needed to also be from scratch. So I chose a fun floral pattern and a more cozy matchy one and got sewing!

Now on to this week's cocktail!

Peel the cucumber, cut it, and remove the seeds but save a couples slices for garnishing. Blend the rest of the cucumbers and strain in to a bowl. Then combine cucumber, sugar vodka in your shaker. Pour over muddled mint leaves and lastly garnish with mint and reserved cucumber slices. The perfect fresh martini for a sunny Spring day.

DIY

After all that I'm sharing a very easy DIY to add some color and freshness to any room you may have. We had a hook that was already there and I wanted to do something floral there that wouldn't need watered for obvious reasons. Here is what you need:

Flowers of your choice

Moss

Any circular ball

String

I put purple moss in the green ball and green in the brown. Add the flowers, string, and just hang!  No reason to not utilize a hook right?

Have a great weekend! Ours is jam packed! So give me all the coffee...then wine.

Theo's Garderie

It's French for nursery! MK decided that he hated the word nursery so we renamed it. Ha! I'm so excited to finally share Theo's room with you! One of my favorite things in the world is do home renovations with MK. When we bought our house it felt like a blank canvas (even with some very 90's decor up in here it was anything but blank). When we found out we were haing a boy we immediately bought our crib which is basically what we designed his room around. But first thing was first. Blow out the ceiling of course. With the help of my Dad, he and MK took out the ceiling and made it cathedral.

It was so amazing to watch the transformation of this room. And the love that went into making it the room that it is makes my heart so full. Making the ceiling cathedral not only gave the room a bigger feel it also made my desire to have a chandelier a reality. So thank you a million times over to my Dad and MK for such hard work.

We chose the paint, and floor in record time because we just fell in love with this color scheme. MK and I have always been huge fans of textured paint and this beautiful grey was right up our alley. We always do projects together and I was so sad to not be able to help with the painting but I'll say he did a fine job.

This centerpiece to the Garderie is very special to me because about seven years ago way before being a mom or even a wife I loved "Forever Young" by Bob Dylan and always thought to myself that if I ever designed a nursery these lyrics would hang about the crib. After playing the song for MK he loved it too and created this canvas. He's got many talents folks.

When my Mom was pregnant with me she and my Dad went to see James Taylor in concert and I always said that was my first concert. I went on to love James Taylor and even danced to one of his songs with my Dad on my wedding day. MK and I always see Train when they come to Pittsburgh and we were thrilled to see that they were touring with OAR which was the first concert we went to together 10 years ago. We were lucky enough to catch picks from both bands and decided to make it a part of Theo's room.

So what is from where? The crib and changing table is from Restoration Hardware, chair is Amazon, Ottoman is Bed Bath and Beyond, customized crib sheet from Carousel Designs (we have two more too), closet from IKEA, and last but not least the curtains are custom made by my Mom. Thanks Mom!!!

One month ago today I was preparing to be induced at midnight. I cleaned my house, had lunch with my best friend, and complained to her and MK that my Braxton Hicks were driving me crazy. Little did I know I was actually in labor and by 5pm we realized we better start timing my contractions. By 8 o'clock we were in the hospital four hours early. What are the odds of him coming on the day he was supposed to?

Being a Mom is already the most rewarding thing I've ever done. Thank you for stopping by and checking out Theo's room.

Whiskey and Wine

First of all Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

If it's one thing that MK do well together it's home renovation. When we bought our house we sure did know that this basement of ours was not going to stay oh so patriotic. It's split into two sections and we knew we wanted to make one side a bar (the other a movie theater, plans have since changed to a play area, ha!).

We started this project in early March and down came the massive amounts of wallpaper. We also thought that maybe the bright red floor didn't quite match our style.

From the start, we knew we didn't want a "sports themed bar" so we took our two passions Whiskey and Wine and decided to use that as our inspiration. The first step was stoning the walls which gave it a wine cellar feel. A fun fact about this stone and plaster paint is that we took it from our old house. We loved both so much we used them again.

These are photos we took from our trip on the Bourbon Trail. Also this is the first photo of me pregnant, we had no idea!

As you can see MK is quite the collector of Bourbon. He created a custom shelf to house all of his unique whiskeys. We also came up with the idea to do a cork wall. MK glued every cork by hand, it was quite the project. We will be adding a 400 bottle wine rack in front of it soon. You know, since I'll be able to have a glass or two in the near future.

How about this bathroom! That star spangled sink is custom done and while we appreciate the effort it wasn't for us. So we freshened it up with paint, a new light, sink and mirror. Even the soap dispenser is bourbon themed.

Yes it's true I have yet to have a drink in my own bar. This was supposed to be our "Summer Project" but when we found out the news about Baby K this got expedited so we could move on to the nursery. Photos of that renovation to follow after our sweet boy is here.

Have a great day everyone! I hope it finds you with a drink in your hand!

Cheers!

xoxo
