The Happiest New Year

Happy New Year!!

I basically flipped out when I realized that January 1st, 2018 was on a MONDAY! You may not know this about me but I have always loved Monday's and when the year starts on one it's the most perfect way for a fresh start!

So talking fresh starts and now that I'm back and blogging, let me share with you what I'll have going on. Fashion and food of course, and I'm really excited to bring back my Martini Moment but it's coming back with a twist...see what I did there? Since the arrival of Baby K this will be my one mom post a week. Friday's will be "Mom's Martini Moment". Because what new Mom (or any Mom) doesn't deserve a drink at the end of the week?

I always like to reflect on the year that has passed and I'll tell you it was one like I've never experienced. What went from a year that was planned to be full of travel (Venice, Iceland etc.) turned into one full of sleeping, eating, and in the end, delivering a baby. I couldn't be more happy or feel more blessed. But this new land of motherhood has me in a different frame of mind more than ever before. I always have resolutions. I feel like it isn't New Years without them.

Here are my very simple goals for 2018:

More reasons to celebrate. Like new shoes or simply because it's Tuesday and it's a great day to be alive.

More shoes (sorry MK)

Allow time to appreciate the little things. Like more than four consecutive hours of sleep.

Further cultivate my love of fashion.

More. Organization.

Run more often.

Be a good Mom, raise a good human.

Date nights.

Champagne Sunday's.

More dog walks.

Make more time to read.

Thanks for stopping by! Cheers to you and a new year! Let's do this 2018!

Theo's Garderie

It's French for nursery! MK decided that he hated the word nursery so we renamed it. Ha! I'm so excited to finally share Theo's room with you! One of my favorite things in the world is to do home renovations with MK. When we bought our house it felt like a blank canvas (even with some very 90's decor up in here it was anything but blank). When we found out we were haing a boy we immediately bought our crib which is basically what we designed his room around. But first thing was first. Blow out the ceiling of course. With the help of my Dad, he and MK took out the ceiling and made it cathedral.

It was so amazing to watch the transformation of this room. And the love that went into making it the room that it is makes my heart so full. Making the ceiling cathedral not only gave the room a bigger feel it also made my desire to have a chandelier in there a reality. So thank you a million times over to my Dad and MK for such hard work.

We chose the paint, and floor in record time because we just fell in love with this color scheme. MK and I have always been huge fans of textured paint and this beautiful grey was right up our alley. We always do projects together and I was so sad to not be able to help with the painting but I'll say he did a fine job.

This centerpiece to the Garderie is very special to me because about seven years ago long before being a mom or even a wife I loved "Forever Young" by Bob Dylan and always thought to myself that if I ever designed a nursery these lyrics would hang above the crib. After playing the song for MK he loved it too and created this canvas. He's got many talents folks.

When my Mom was pregnant with me she and my Dad went to see James Taylor in concert and I always said that was my first concert. I went on to love James Taylor and even danced to one of his songs with my Dad on my wedding day. MK and I always see Train when they come to Pittsburgh and we were thrilled to see that they were touring with OAR which was the first concert we went to together 10 years ago. We were lucky enough to catch picks from both bands and decided to make it a part of Theo's room.

So what is from where? The crib and changing table are from Restoration Hardware, chair is Amazon, Ottoman is Bed Bath and Beyond, customized crib sheet from Carousel Designs (we have two more too), closet from IKEA, and last but not least the curtains are custom made by my Mom. Thanks Mom!!!

One month ago today I was preparing to be induced at midnight. I cleaned my house, had lunch with my best friend, and complained to her and MK that my Braxton Hicks were driving me crazy. Little did I know I was actually in labor and by 5pm we realized we better start timing my contractions. By 8 o'clock we were in the hospital four hours early. What were the odds of him coming on the day he was supposed to?

Being a Mom is already the most rewarding thing I've ever done. Thank you for stopping by and checking out Theo's room.

Whiskey and Wine

First of all Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

If it's one thing that MK do well together it's home renovation. When we bought our house we sure did know that this basement of ours was not going to stay oh so patriotic. It's split into two sections and we knew we wanted to make one side a bar (the other a movie theater, plans have since changed to a play area, ha!).

We started this project in early March and down came the massive amounts of wallpaper. We also thought that maybe the bright red floor didn't quite match our style.

From the start, we knew we didn't want a "sports themed bar" so we took our two passions Whiskey and Wine and decided to use that as our inspiration. The first step was stoning the walls which gave it a wine cellar feel. A fun fact about this stone and plaster paint is that we took it from our old house. We loved both so much we used them again.

These are photos we took from our trip on the Bourbon Trail. Also this is the first photo of me pregnant, we had no idea!

As you can see MK is quite the collector of Bourbon. He created a custom shelf to house all of his unique whiskeys. We also came up with the idea to do a cork wall. MK glued every cork by hand, it was quite the project. We will be adding a 400 bottle wine rack in front of it soon. You know, since I'll be able to have a glass or two in the near future.

How about this bathroom! That star spangled sink is custom done and while we appreciate the effort it wasn't for us. So we freshened it up with paint, a new light, sink and mirror. Even the soap dispenser is bourbon themed.

Yes it's true I have yet to have a drink in my own bar. This was supposed to be our "Summer Project" but when we found out the news about Baby K this got expedited so we could move on to the nursery. Photos of that renovation to follow after our sweet boy is here.

Have a great day everyone! I hope it finds you with a drink in your hand!

Cheers!
